#AprilTrioKit #3ScrappyBoys

Hashtags are all the rage and honestly I never use them as I'm never on twitter.  But today I decided to accept Christy's challenge from the crop to use a hashtag in my title.  Here is what I created using this month's Trio Kit at 3 Scrappy Boys.  I love this kit!  I've had a lot of fun with it.  I love how all three lines work so well together! First, here's the kit:
April 2014 Trio kit

Here's what I create with it.
# Good Eats
For this layout I used the Crate Paper Race Track paper as my background, cut out a circle from star vellum to go over the center of it and zig zag stitched it.  I also used the multi colored dot paper from the Crate Paper line.  I also cut the gray word strip and yellow dot paper from October Afternoon.  Isn't it awesome how well they mix?  Plus the grey/red dot is from the BG part of the trio.  Love how versatile these are!   I did use several of the OA die cuts and some of the epoxy shapes from the kit and added a few chalkboard stickers from a kit a few months ago, some washi tape and a few enamel dots (something I can't seem to get enough of).

I was inspired by a sketch by Audrey Yeager for My Scraps and More for this.  I just rotated it. There was also a twist to use chalkboard elements on it

Here is another layout I created using this April Trio kit.  I used another sketch from the Sketch-a-thon at My Scraps & More.

I hope you'll check out this fabulous April Trio kit from 3Scrappy Boys.  It really is worth the money and is so versatile!  Be sure and stop by the boards and participate in our crop challenges.  There are many prizes up for grabs and I'd love to see you win one!  Happy Scrapping!

There will be several prizes up for grabs including two April kits, several gift cards and multiple prize packs!!

So today it's my turn to share a tutorial, tip or trick. So I thought it would be fun to type up a tutorial of how to make these:

I was inspired to make these when I was at my sister's house and her kid's had a Happy Meal from McDonalds. They had the cutest mini fry container I'd ever seen! I took one home with me and decided they'd make a cute treat box for my friend for Easter. Here is the new mini fry box. They used to just be made from paper. See how much smaller it is than the regular fry box?

Step 1 is to go and buy yourself a Happy Meal or you might even be able to ask for a mini fry box if you order a value meal...not sure.
Now, with this adorable mini fry box in my mind I dug through my 3SB stash and found these cute Fancy Pants papers from the August 2013 Trio kit. To start, you're going to carefully undo the seams of the fry boy

Now flatten it out, trace it on the back side of your paper and cut it out.

Now you'll need to score where the original fry box is scored so it folds up easily. I used my Martha Stewart Score Board. I made a little mark with my pencil using the original fry box so I knew where the line went and then lined it up on a straight line, and scored it. You'll have two long lines and the center line on the rounded bottom part.

Now to score the rounded part of the bottom. First you need to cut the little tab part of the fry box off, following the curve as much as you can.

Next, I took my bone folder and gently went over the traced line for the circle. I only did this for the bottom circle. If you don't have a Score Board, you could do that for all the lines with a ruler to be your straight line or you could use a scoring blade on your trimmer if it has one.

And here's what the bottom looks like once it's all put together. See how the fold in the center is the same as the original fry box?

Once it's scored you will gently fold on the lines. Then put adhesive in the same places you took the mini fry box apart to glue your container together.

Here's my first one. Once I had it popped up, I kind of held up my embellishments to see how I wanted to arrange them and glued them on. Then I learned from this one and realized I could fold it flat like the original fry box.

My second one I glued it down and then flattened just like the original does. That way I could pop it up and see whether it looked straight or not. I added the twine after it was all glued together.
Here's my 2nd one. See how it folds flat even after it's glued? I took this photo to show you what it looks like from the back once it's glued down.

Now you'll want to decorate it while it's flat. Just a warning..it does look different once it's put together so before securing something too well, you might want to see what it looks like once it's glued.

Then I added a little bit of Easter grass and filled it up with candy. I think this would be fun for any theme too. I thought it would be cute filled with jelly beans, m&m's or smaller candies if you put them in a cellophane bag and tie it with ribbon or twine. I think a regular fry box would be cute too if you want a bigger size. I hope you feel inspired in some way by this and if you have the time to create one I'd love to see it! Enjoy!!

Superhero Day

Here's my last one to share that I created from my Scrappy Retreat.  I got a lot done and was so inspired by so many challenges at fun sites I love.  This one I created using my DT kit from 3 Scrappy Boys.  This is from May 2012 Trio Extra Paper kit & it's on a fabulous sale right now.  I love patterned paper and this was a great one to play with.

I also was inspired by a challenge at My Scraps & More to use stars, an arrow, tag, twine and 4 patterned papers.  And over at Scrap Our Stash I used their challenge to use twine.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Scrapping!

District Spelling Bee

Here's a double layout I created using a fun sketch from The Memory Nest.  I'm sure I  missed the deadline to share it there but wanted to give credit here anyway.  I used to exclusively create double layouts but I started on a DT years ago at as LSS and they only wanted single layouts as they were easier to display.  Because of that I got hooked on single layouts and to this day prefer them.  But every once in awhile I have more photos to use than will fit on a single.  This was one of those events.  My son made it in the top 2 for his grade at his school level and got a chance to be in the district level.  We were so proud!

And here is the sketch I used from The Memory Nest.  I change it up quite a bit to make it work with my photos but this was my inspiration:

Plus at My Scraps & More I was inspired to use 4 of one shape and green.  I used more than 4 triangles and circles.  And at Scrap Our Stash they had a challenge to use a banner, and I love using banners.

Thanks for stopping by!

Need a Hand

Here's another I created at my Scrappy Retreat last weekend.  Now for the back story on this photo: This was taken on Black Friday.  We were waiting for my family in Macy's (a dept store) and my sister found this mannequin hand and turned to us and said "Skye...need a hand?" and showed us this hand she'd found.  Skye, my daughter, then found the other hand and they quite a time high fiving and spanking each other's butts.  It was so funny!

I used this fun paper kit from 3 Scrappy Boys.   I also had fun with this sketch from Let's Get Sketchy:

Plus, I added the challenge from My Scraps & More to use the words "Love This" as well as the Scrap Our Stash Challenge to use sequins or enamel dots to create a confetti look.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great rest of your week!
