Sketches In Thyme Take #91

It's my turn to share my take on Sketches in Thyme's Take #91 sketch today.
Here is the sketch:

And here is my take on it. I chose to create a single layout and used mostly the left side as my inspiration.  It ended up taking a life of it's own.

Thanks for stopping by.  It's not to late to participate with this month's sketches.  We'd love to see what you create!

A Thought on Burlap

Today over at Thinking Through Design we are talking about Burlap.  Burlap is such a fun way to add texture to your layout.  There are some fabulous ideas shared on the TTD blog this week.

When I think of burlap for some reason, I think of fall. And maybe that's because the burlap colors I had were in orange and browns. So I finally decided this challenge would be great to scrap these Harvest dance photos of my daughter. I had considered making fall leaves out of the burlap but once I got it all out and started playing with it, I decided to make these fun circle elements and add buttons on them as well as to create a layered flower with them. I then cut out some simple leaves, pulled out my green embroidery floss and created a few "veins" on my leaves. I added the orange strip across the left side of the layouts as well as the little banner/pennant to the top right to create texture throughout the layout. Don't forget how much interest is added, especially on straight cuts, when you pull one or two of the strings off of each side, like you see on the orange strip, making it look frayed. I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge and was thankful for the fun reminder to get this wonderful product out of the draw and use it!

We'd love to have you share your take on using burlap with us!  Be sure and link to our TTD blog. Thanks for stopping by!

So create a layout using the colors of Black, White, Pink and Lime Green.

Here is my layout using this color combo.  I even found a fun chandelier on a very old paper I had.

I also had a chance to create using this challenge by Jean to

Triple The Fun

Luckily, I've been able to find some time lately to scrap.  I've had fun with the challenges posted out there in scrappyland.  Today I thought I'd share this fun sketch posted over at Paper Secrets:

Plus they wanted you to use Authentique products, which they have on sale this month.  So I thought I'd give it a try.  BUT...I wanted to include a few other challenges as well.  I used the challenge at Scrap-Friendzy to use themed paper without having it be the theme of your photos and at Colorful Creations I did the 3 R challenge usings red, ric-rac and rhinestones.  Here is my layout:

Sally's Scrapbook Shop, My New Adventure

One night as I was pondering on whether I should go out and get a part time job working at a local craft/scrappy store, I came across a strong impression that instead of taking time away from my family and being tied down to a store that it would be wiser to create layout kits.  Years ago I used to create these kits and do mini classes with a few women coming each month.

Since it's been awhile I really wasn't sure where to start.  So I just started creating layouts and then cut the kits.  So I've started a new blog with a post for each kit I'm selling.  There are 2 ways to buy them:
1. As a completed layout that is all glued down ready for you to add your photos
2. As a kit, where everything is cut and ready for you to assemble using a photo I've added.

I would love for you to stop by and share your thoughts with me.

Sketches in Thyme Blast from the Past

This month at Sketches in Thyme we are having a Blast from the Past, which means we are revisting 3 sketches from the past.  Here is this week's sketch:
And here is my take on it.  I love this photo of my sister as it really showcases her personality and beauty. The papers and embellishments are LYB Saturday's collection.

Thanks for stopping by.  Be sure and check out all of the fun sketches going on this month.  We'd love to have you play along with us!

A Thought on List Journaling

I am a list person.  If I'm going to accomplish anything it's got to be on a list.  Well today's thought at Thinking Through Design is on using a list to journal.  I think I forget to use lists for my layouts but love the idea of them.  So when I found this pre-made list from Simple Stories I thought it would be perfect fot one of my daughter, Skye's, senior photos.  Here is my layout:

So come on over and create a layout using a list of some kind.  There are some fabulous examples and thoughts shared to inspire you!  I look forward to seeing what you create!

TTD Thought on Chevron Patterns

There's a new thought up over at Thinking Through Design on Chevron Patterns.  I was excited when I saw this thought as there is an amazing tutorial by Julia Stainton on how to make a big chevron.  It did take me a little bit of time and to be honest I was too lazy to glue each piece down on the back so I decided to sew instead and am very happy with the results.  Since the chevron is such a fun pattern I knew I wanted my theme to be about a fun day and this goofy photo was perfect.  I then created 3 big chevrons and staggered them at the bottom trying to keep the bottom of my layout from being too heavy.  I then created a smaller version by cutting all of the dimensions in half for the top to help balance it out.  I had a great time creating this for the thought and hope you'll give it a try.  Here is my take on the challenge:

Sketches in Thyme Take #85

Once again it's sketch time at Sketches in Thyme!  And this week it's a double layout.  Here is sketch #85:
And here is my take on it.  I love the double layout sketches as it forces me to choose photos I've put off scrapping.  I had fun playing with this one.  I used some older October Afternoon on it.  Photos from the Oregon Coast.

Be sure and stop by and share your take on this sketch with us!

Thinking Through Design

It's time for another "Thought" at Thinking Through Design.  This week it's all about Calendars as embellishments.   When I found out this week's challenge I remembered having several calendars to choose from in my stash. After pulling them out and looking at photos, I decided that if I was going to put a focus on the actual date by using a calendar, then I wanted it to be a special day I wanted to remember always. With that in mind, it made looking through my photos much easier and I finally decided on this photo of our family on the day our daughter graduated from High School. I used this fun scalloped calendar page as my base and since the rest of the month did not really matter. I mounted my photo on the left side, along with some patterned paper to add some visual and textural interest. Along with using color and to help ground my photo. I chose to use stitching to circle the date of her graduation, highlighting the importance of the date. I loved finding a fun way of journaling. This was a special day in our daughter's life and I will definitely consider using a calendar as an embellishment for future special days and events.

So with that said, here is my take on this challenge:

Be sure and stop by and read all of the wonderful thoughts on calendars as well as some very fun layouts using calendars.  Plus...take this challenge on and share your take on this challenge.  I'd love see how you interpret using calendars.

Thinking Through Design Fussy Cutting

Today is a new challenge or "thought" as we like to call it at Thinking Through Design.  This week is about fussy cutting.  When I saw this thought I was excited as I do a lot of fussy cutting!  My scrappy friends tease me about how much I cut out and are always commenting on how patient I am to do it.  But there's something about cutting those fun designs out that I love.  So here is my take on this thought:

So for this I used Simple Stories Fabulous line.  I just loved the colors of this line and knew I must have it.  I fussy cut the journaling block with the flowers, the pink border strip, the little pennants and the little bird in my title.  I'd love to your take on this thought.  Be sure and share it with us TTD!

My Creative Sketches & Memorable Seasons LSS Week 2

I finally found some time to play a little.  I created this layout using this fun sketch from My Creative Sketches.
Here is my take on it:

At Memorable Seasons they are on their 2nd week of Last Scrapper Standing.  Though I found out I wasn't eligible for the grand prize I wanted to play along anyway.  The challenge was to use borders or a banner.  Here is my take:

Thanks for stopping by to check things out.  More to come in a day or so.

Memorable Seasons Last Scrapper Standing

Well it's that time again.  Memorable Seasons has started their Last Scrapper Standing competition.  I love this contest and have found in the past that some of my favorite layouts have come from this contest.

So this week's challenge is to create a layout using Red/Yellow and Blue.  Here is my take.

Hopefully I'll make it to the next round.  Be sure and come on over and check things out.  Be sure and mention that I sent you as our names will go in twice for the weekly draw.  Oh...and I combined this challenge with one at Paper Secrets to use eyelets.  They were perfect to add a pop of yellow on my blue paper.

The Scrapping continues

I have been on a scrappy roll lately.  I've been enjoying many challenges from several sites.  I've found a few new ones I played along with and some I've been lurking but never found time to create.  So here are 2 more that I created:

First...at Memorable Seasons there was a challenge last month to take a photo of us right then...as we were in our everyday.  Then Tami challenged us to scrap that photo.  I almost didn't as I don't love this photo of me.  But I finally decided to give it a try. Finding paper that worked was the hardest part of this challenge as nothing looked right with my shirt.  I finally decided on this MME I've had for awhile.  I used a sketch from Colorful Creations featuring a sketch for their Guest DT member.

Then I moved on to Audrey's challenge at Memorable Seasons which was to create a layout using a black and white photo with bright colors.  I don't have a lot of black and white but found this one taken for my daugther's senior photos.  I used another sketch from Color Creations from their sketch a thon and combined it with the  One Little Word challenge at Paper Secrets - YOU.  I love how this turned out.

Thanks for stopping by.  I look forward to some fun June challenges. Have a wonderful weekend!

Bo Bunny, Scrapbook Challenges and Colorful Creations

How I love challenges!  I am so inspired to create when a good challenges is before me.  Last night I snuck in a little bit of scrappy time.  Here are the 2 projects I completed:

1st: I found this fun sketch at Scrapbook Challenges and knew I had to create it.  I also used the criteria for a Bo Bunny card challenge to use 3 pp's, 2 stickers and 1 brad.  I had fun with my yards and yards of twine to create my "flowers".

2nd: I loved this sketch from Colorful Creations and was so inspired to create this layout with it.  I bought this paper a month or so ago and have been waiting to use it.  This sketch inspired me to pull it out and have fun.  Very different colors for me to use.  I also combined this with a challenge at Scrapbook Challenges to use Family as my title and a banner or ribbon.  Here is my layout:

Paper Secrets, Colorful Creations and More

I finally got a chance to scrap over the weekend.  I was hoping to find more time than what I did but grateful for the time I did get.  Here are a few of the layouts I created:

This first one is actually for 2 challenges: 1st: At Paper Secrets they have a fun blog challenge to create a layout using 75% Pink Paislee.  Since I just go some happy mail with this new line I thought it would be perfect.  I combined this challenge with a sketch from Colorful Creations, where they are having a sketchathon this month. I had hoped to use more of them but this month hasn't cooperated.  So here is the layout I created:

The second one is for 3 challenges:  1st: At Memorable Seasons, Joni challenged us to get messy - to use inks and mists.  So I figured it was perfect for this photo of my son.  2nd: I used a fun sketch at Color Creations.  They have a sketchathon going this month.     3rd: I used a chevron challenge from Paper Secrets.  I love it when I can be inspired by these fun challenges.  It really helps me think outside my box.  So here is the layout using some fun Simple Stories Awesome that I got at Memorable Seasons.

There are some fun challenges out there on some fabulous sites!  Be sure and stop by and play along!

Final DT challenge for Memorable Seasons

Well today I issued my last challenge as a DT member at Memorable Seasons.  I'll really miss being on the DT there but it's time for some fresh blood and I totally understand.  With that said...here is the challenge:

As I pondered what to challenge you with this last time I thought of all kinds of trends, color challenges, sketch challenges...you name it. What I finally came up with is a scraplift challenge. But this isn't just any scraplift challenge. This week I'd like you to look back at the layouts you created at least 6 months ago or later and find one you want to re-create. Then....

Scraplift yourself.

I know there are a lot of favorites, maybe some that aren't so fabulous but we've all scrapped something we can re-cycle and change up. You are welcome to rotate the layout/design, or pick out a few favorite elements...whatever you desire. Be sure and link back to this post the original one you chose and your new take on it. You don't have to re-do the layout, just scraplift it. It was actually a lot of fun looking back through what I'd created over the last several years and this is the layout I chose to scraplift from 2009:

I didn't change a lot from the original.  I also used my May DT kit: MME Miss Caroline.

That's it.  Just pick an older layout of yours and scraplift it.  Since this is my last challenge to issue I'm also offering a RAK of some baker's twine (at least 5 colors) to one lucky winner.  Layouts must be newly created and posted by May 31st.

Sketches in Thyme Take 78

It's sketch time again at Sketches in Thyme.  This week's is a fun single layout with room for 3 photos.  Here is the sketch:
And here is my take.  I rotated the sketch to the right since my photos sent horizontal.  These are fun photos of my kids on the Metro while we were in DC a few years ago.  I created this layout using my May Memorable Seasons DT kit
You have until the end of May to complete any of the sketches at Sketches in Thyme.  We'd love to have you join us!

T*T*D Reveal Day

Well today is the day!  It's the reveal day at Thinking Through Design, a sight I'm very proud to say I'm a part of!  So excited about this blog and the new format.  Today our "thought" is about Analogous Colors.  To be honest I had no idea what that meant, but the blog will explain it all and then share all of our takes on this challenge.  Then you can have a chance to play along as well.  It was a different route than I normally take when creating but found it was quite fun to challenge myself in a new way. Here is my layout for this challenge:
I'd love to hear from you and see you play along with us.  TTD is a safe, inviting site to play along. Stop by and share your thoughts with us!

Memorable Seasons & Basic Grey

I didn't get any time to play on NSD but I did find a few fun challenges at Basic Grey.  I still haven't had a lot of time to play along but there were 2 I created.  I, also, combined the BG challenges with some we have at Memorable Seasons.  We decided to have a week long celebration of NSD this week.  Be sure and come by and see the fun challenges being issued.

The first challenge is one I issued at MS by creating a color combination bingo card.  Plus I used a cute sketch at BG by Susan Stringfellow.  I used my fun MME Miss Caroline DT kit to create this:

And the other challenge from BG was to use Vintage products.  Well since I've had Motifica and Age&Confused from over 5 years ago I figured that was pretty vintage.  By combining the 2 lines I also played along with Tami's NSD challenge at MS.

It's not too late to play along with us at Memorable Seasons. We'd love to have you join us!

Thinking Through Design

A little over a month ago I was pleasantly surprised to get an email asking me to join in on a team of women who are interested in teaching and supporting others through a blog called Thinking Through Design.  Of course I said YES!!!  And it's starting it's launch this month!  Be sure and stop by daily to meet the new team and learn a little bit more of how it will work.  I will, of course, keep you posted here on the weeks that I share my "thought" but you won't want to miss out on any of them.  I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing team!  Wahoo!!!

Memorable Seasons May DT Kit

Well, it's so sad for me to say but this will be my last month as a Design Team Member at Memorable Seasons.  I'm sad my year is up but it's been a blast and I am so thankful to have been a part of such a fabulous group of women.

With that said...it's the first of the month and it's DT kit reveal time!  This month I was sent this fabulous MME Miss Caroline Kit:

Cute, huh?!  And here are 2 of my projects to share with you today.  The rest will come throughout the month.  This layout was inspired by our Member of the Month...Kasey.  Be sure and stop by and peruse her fun gallery and scraplift one of her beautiful layouts.

And here is a card I created...love my cute butterfly die and I'm so in love with doilies!

Thanks for letting me share with you. We'd love to have you stop by and participate in our challenges.  We will have a week long NSD celebration starting Monday.  We'd love to have you join us!  I can't wait to see you on the boards!
